The softer side of landscaping

Turfing & planting

A fresh lawn and well-placed planting can change how a garden feels. They bring softness beside paving, colour to an empty corner and a sense of life around the places you sit. DWE Landscapes & Design provides turfing and soft landscaping as standalone improvements and as the finishing part of a larger garden project.

Green lawn and planted borders balancing a contemporary paved garden

Start with the conditions underfoot

When a lawn looks tired, replacing the surface is only part of the conversation. Shade, uneven ground, frequent use and water movement can all affect the area. Tell us where the problems appear and how the lawn is used, so preparation and the suitability of the proposed approach can be considered.

For new turf, the shape of the lawn matters as well as its condition. A clear edge can make mowing easier and create a cleaner relationship with a patio or border. We can discuss removing awkward corners or adjusting the lawn outline as part of the work.

Use planting to give the garden structure

Planting can frame a seating area, soften a new fence or lead the eye through the garden. It works best when the available space and growing conditions are considered alongside the appearance you want. A sunny border and a shaded corner may need quite different choices, even within the same garden.

Think about the level of upkeep you enjoy and the effect you want over time. You may prefer a restrained scheme with a few repeated plants, seasonal interest around the patio or more substantial greenery at the boundaries. We can discuss planting as part of the project brief, including any existing plants you hope to retain.

Leave enough room for plants to develop rather than judging the border only on installation day. Their eventual size affects paths, views and access for care. A little space between a planted area and the places people walk or sit can make the garden more comfortable as it matures.

Plan for the weeks after installation

Living materials need care after they go in. New turf and plants require attention while they establish, and the appropriate watering and use of the area will depend on the conditions and materials supplied. If you are away often or have limited access to water, mention that before the work is planned.

A quote can cover turfing, preparation, borders and associated landscaping, with the exact scope agreed for your garden. Send photographs and approximate measurements, together with a note about sunny or shaded areas and any persistent wet patches. We can then discuss what is practical and arrange the next step towards a free, no-obligation quote.

Before you start

A few useful answers.

Can you replace a worn-out lawn?

Yes, lawn replacement is something we can discuss. It helps to understand why the current lawn is struggling so that preparation and the suitability of turf for the area are considered.

When can I use a newly turfed lawn?

New turf needs time to establish before normal use. The appropriate timing varies with the turf and conditions, so follow the aftercare advice provided for your installation rather than relying on a fixed number of days.

Can you keep my existing plants?

Tell us which plants you want to retain. Their condition, position and the proposed work will influence what is practical; moving an established plant should not be assumed risk-free.
